I'll have to go with Mike on this one. While I've hunted souther tier and mid south I noticed that you have a lot of heavy brush to contend with. Hunting hog and black bear in these conditions requires a bullet to work hard and even a heavy .243 will come apart going through stuff like that.
The .30 cal's are easier to get reloading components for and offer a better selection of bullet weights to choose from.
When I hunted in in Va. we used mostly shotgun for deer, and hog, as most of the hunting was done with dogs. So a nice 12ga barrel would be on my list if I still live down there... Either way, get one, and then add barrels as you need them. Thats the beauty of the Encore...
