The first "limited edition" Contender was in 1978 for IHMSA, made by the Custom Shop, which happened to be owned by T/C's President. 400 Guns. They did a 10th anniversary model later That was custom etched and Armour Alloy'd. Another was the Steve Herrett Commemorative, 500 engraved cased guns with 10" barrel. T'C had their own 25th anniversary limited edition model silver inlay)as well, again by FRO, the "Custom Shop". I've got several of the original IHMSA's, including the silver inlaid logo'd IHMSA 022, 1-25 were inlaid, the rest as flatsides. SH 024 of 500 Steve Herrett Comm. Some of these are shown in the Contender Reference section.

84, I still have the receipt from when they first came out. Distributor only for 2 years. Orange label, "Carbine Kit Barrel Only". .22, 22H, 223, 7TCU, 30-30, 35 Rem. Month later, added 7-30 (just not in kit with buttstock and forend).
