I have just spoke for a 7mm-08 Encore rifle barrel. My question is for a place to start. I am going to have a clean start on this barrel. I will have to have brass, dies, and bullets. I will primarily be using this for Missouri White Tail Deer. What is the best ammo for this type of shooting. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks and God bless.

Mr. Murl

I've always been in favor of using bullets that are a tad on the heavy side of the spectrum for a given caliber. For example, in 7mm-08 you can get bullets from around 120gr up to about 160gr. I've got no use for those little 120gr bullets that will blow up and cause meat damage (or any ballistic tip bullet for that matter). In 7mm, I like them in the 140-150 range.

In factory ammo, I've had great success with Fusion in every caliber I've shot it (7mm-08, .260, and 30-06). It seems to be almost the same quality of the "premium" stuff but costs only a little more than basic ammo. For the cheap basic stuff, it's hard to beat the old Federal blue-box ammo but that seems to be getting hard to find.

I am at the same place.. Loading for a new 7mm08. It seems to like 140's ...tried 4350 and Varget ...jury is still out... I don't need to shoot lengthwise through a deer with those solid coppers. I am getting good groups with my Sierras. Since I am a meat hunter, I don't want a lot of meat damage. Have yet to shoot a deer. Season opens soon.

I've had good luck with the hornady 139 btsp and 39 grs. of H4895 in both the pistol and rifle length barrels. Mike

I bought a box of those too but I haven't had a chance to use them yet.
