Folks ,
I have a new .270 SS encore rifle bbl. and before I spend a lot of money on optics and time in load development I'm wondering if youall get MOA from them . I'd like to take a .270 deer hunting and hope this will fill the bill . Some shots are in the 250 / 300 yard range , so I'm thinking the 130 or 140 grain Noslers should do the trick if I do my part .

I just got mine , a 26" heavy made in the old Fox Ridge custom shop.
I have only shot basic Federal 130so (blue box cheapo) ammo so far.
The first 3shot group was a cloverleaf!
Adjusted a tad and put 3 more cloverleaf groups on paper!
Itching and ready for next weeks opener!

soup,i have a used ss prohunter barrel that i got from a member on this site that i shoot sub moa @150yds with factory ammo.have not been able to stretch it out any further but shouldn't be a problem shooting 250-300yds with it.topped it with a bushnell elite 2.5-10x50 and zeroed it in with a box of hornady custom 140gr sst's and was very pleased with it to say the least.as for reloads i wouldn't know what to tell you about what load to try except that my barrel loved the 140gr bullets.hope this helps,wayne

My 24" 270 barrel shoots very well. Loves the 110 TTSX load Federal discontinued. Sad

Fellow Shooters ,
I took the .270 to the range yesterday-cool day a little wind . The rifle is a factory .270 w/ black synthetic stock & a Leupold 3x9x40 VX II w/ Leupold Quick Detach mounts .
Shooting some " old " 150s @ 100 yards it put 6 all touching-about a 3/4 spread . I was going to buy another stock and try to get a custom barrel but >>> I guess " if it aint broke don't fix it " , would apply here .
I AM thinking about a new scope with a little more power , say a Conquest or a Leupold VX3 in a 4x12 . This is to compensat for my ageing eyesight .
Your thoughts would be greatly apprecated.
How would youall compare the Zeiss Conquest to the new Leupold VX3 ( not VX III ) - I'm partial to made in USA .

I've owned both and currently have a Zeiss on my hunting rifle. Great glass but so is the Leupy.
