Was just wondering who out there had a 20 ga slug barrel and how well it shoots for them? Thinking about gettin one for deer hunting in Illinois, but wanted some inside first.

I just bought a 20 guage rifled prohunter barrel, didn't like the length so had it cut and re-crowned to 25" and Cerakoted olive green. Hope it shoots as good as it looks. 2-7 Nikon Prostaff slug scope sits on top

Mine shoots real well. Rem accutips, hornady sst, and federal Barnes all shot real well. By that I mean 1"-1.25". Hope that helps.

Hey Fella's, just to throw in my 2 cents. I actually shoot the 28" SS PH in 12 ga. but my cousin shoot the 20ga. in same configuration. I think his 20ga. has a little better trajectory out to 200 yds than my 12 ga. The farthest shot I have taken was 175 yds last year. I dropped a nice 8 point buck. However, I have personally seen my cousin Paul shoot out past 200+ yards with his 20ga. SS PH. That 20ga. is nothing but BAD to the bone. Down here in SE Pa. in slug "only" country, we shoot our Lightfield Hybrid slugs. I'm sold on them after I tried everything else out there until one day when I saw guys at the range shooting these super flat shooting slugs. Checkout their sight at www.litfld.com. I think you'll see for yourself. My 12ga. set up is a SS std. encore frame, 28" SS PH fully rifled barrel, 2-7X32mm Leupold Vari X-II, Leupold base and Burris medium Z-Rings. I use the Burris Z-Rings on everyone of my TC set ups. I have the trigger retuned to 2.5lbs with new springs. The rest is up to you.. If your squeemish about about jaw jarring blow back, the 12 ga. is probably not for you. The 20 ga. is not a whole let better. Usually 2 boxes out of each is good for me. LOL.

Mine was very accurate at 100 yds (never shot any farther) especially with the Barnes Expander rounds. It wouldn't group the Lightfield Hybrid (more like a pattern even at 50 yds)at all but each barrel is a different story unto itself.

Steve........

Just bought 2 Encore frames back in the mid 90's or so.

I've got a 28" Prohunter 20ga barrel and LOVE IT! However, the first time to the range, I was about ready to throw it down the range! I bought up a bunch of Winchester 260gr partition gold and 260 dual bond slugs...couldn't hardly keep it on a 15" target at 100y. Out of frustration, I spent the extra money on the Lightfield EXP 3" slugs. To say I was impressed would be an understatement!!! The group dropped to under 2" @ 100y. I had wanted to try the Remington and Hornady slugs but, being that I didn't get my barrel until close to hunting season...those were none to be found, that's why I started with the Winchesters. I'm truly impressed with the accuracy of the Lightfields so I'll probably just stick with them. The ONLY recommendation I have is to make SURE you watch the eye relief on whatever scope you get! Originally I did a Burris 2-7x35 E1...NOT a good choice (only 3.1" of eye relief on 7x). It never busted me but, I felt it tap my glasses a few times. I've now moved up to a Weaver Super Slam 2-10x42 with an EBX reticle (p/n 800315)....Natchez recently had it for $319.99 and Weaver had a $100 rebate up until the end of this past month. This scope is roughly 4.1 - 4.25" of relief on ANY power! Yeah...it's a 20ga but, it's still got a pretty good kick in such a light gun. I'd hate to think of what a 12ga is like...probably close to my .375 H&H barrel.

To reply to 1966DDart,had a 12ga barrel, thought the recoil was way beyond enjoyable to shoot.Switched over to 45cal muzzleloader barrel for deer.Never had opprotunity to try a 20ga encore.
