Looking for 30 Cal Encore barrel, rifle or Carbine length for shooting cast bullets. 30-30, 30-40, 30BR, Whisper, 30 Carbine, etc. Will consider any. Need to fix set up for my brother and other friends who have bum shoulders and are very recoil sensitive. I have bunch 30 cal cast bullets to use up.

30TC may not be a bad choice. If for deer, the 30 carb is a bit weak.

Jameesgammel, good ot hear from you. I'm thinking about a plinker and casual informal from the bench cheap to shoot, minimum recoil. We used to shoot 22 LR, out of the question right now these parts. I don't have a lot of light weight 30 cal boolits left, so 30 Carb is probably not most practical.

Tin50, I often wondered about the 308 Marlin for cast boolits, a little smaller than 308 Win makes it interesting. I just have brass and dies for the other small 30 caliber cartridges so was sticking with those from cost and practical standpoint. I have 308 Win barrel for hunting, just thought might find barrel for decicated cast shooting.
However, can you send me PM or an email about your experience with the 308 Marlin.

30 Herrett would be cheap to use. 30-30 brass all over, dies not hard to get. Doesn't hold much powder, not exactly a kickin mule, still adequate for deer, etc. Finding it in an encore is about the biggest problem. 30 in a necked down 357 mag case is a possible.

Somewhere I saw 30 Herrett Encore barrel for sale in the past few months,, now just have to try to find and hope it's rifle not pistol barrel.
Never even thought of the 30 Herrett. I got an email about a 308x39. necked and blown out 7.62x39, justifiably pricey and dies are a premium.

TC chambers the 7.62 X 39 with 308 bores. the .003 difference don't mean squat. Technically the bore shooul be 311 or 312, don't remember off the top of my head. shoots cheap steel cased 7.62 fine. If reloadable, use 308 decap ball instead of the slightly larger one. Dies are a common item. Don't know about an improved version, they would be pricier dies.

Yes, and I was just as guilty as everyone else in letting this thread go astray. Almost a "challege" to try and come up with all the different chamberings that is 30 Caliber and meets your needs/goals. You've gotten quite a few already, may even get a couple more suggestions. If we ever get the chance to meet, I'll let you get the first punch, But please don't make it Tropical punch, I really hate the taste of that stuff Wink
