Does anyone know if TC produced 16 1/4" encore barrels (non custom shop)?

yes I do, and no they didn't - sort of. The 15" barrels should have been 16.something in my not so humble opinion.

There were some batches released to H&H Sports Shop after the TC sell-out and move, but (if I remember right) they were leftovers from the Custom Shop. For a few weeks there you could get a REALLY good deal on some great short rifle barrels. I'm told by a friend who bought one that it is a fantastic shooter out to 300 yards (in 308).

Honestly, I have all the barrels I want or could ever need..... wait, look, there's another!!

Any idea what they were going for? What calibers did they have?

BUT, as he asked originally, are they custom shop released or normal factory released? I don't think they ever did any as a normal factory release--Cataloged, and shipped to their normal distributors in any appreciable quantity. I know you can get almost anything via a cutom shop, whether T/C, MGM, Bellm, Bullberry, etc.
T/C ate their lunch over the 6 or 7 year period they did Contender 16's. Now those suckers get a premium price on the secondary market. S&W bean-counters likely aren't going to let them go through the same debacle doing 16 encores.

BTW, Encore pistol barrels started out in two shorter sizes, similar to Contender pistol barrrels. That got upped to the ONE standard 15" pistol barrel length. That's one inch more than the current flagship 14 G-2's. G1 Contender std "rifle/carbine" length was 21 most of which were TAPERED. G-2 saw a switch to 23 BULL's. Encore RIFLE/Carbine offers 20, 24, 26, and 28. FOUR STANDARD lengths, and you dream of adding a FIFTH 16+? Caliber choices in the 20's is EXTREMELY limited. 16's would be more so. So What caliber choices get the axe?

James, are you sure about the lengths? I bought my first Encore right when they came out, and all the pistol barrels were 15". I wanted a 30-06, but got a 22-250 instead because I was hoping to get out PDoggin

They are marked as standard barrels, not Custom Shop. The only caliber I know of for sure was a 308, I think there were 243 and 7-08 as well

The reason I asked the question is because I supposable have an encore 16 1/4" .270 Winchester barrel NIB on it's way. Never seen a 16 1/4" encore barrel before so I'm skeptical. Should have it this week so I guess we'll see when it shows up.

upper right corner will usually be the packer's initials. If a Custom Shop job, you'll also see a "cs" in that corner too. Most times you'll see the C/S logo on the right side of the barrel. If it's a TCA barrel, you'll usually see "TCA" near the front end of the hinge lug on the left side of the barrel.

Crubear is right on the money, H%H bought all the 16 1/4" barrels from T/C right after the fire, pallets of them. Most were 243 and 308 but there may have been others as well, he sold them for 200 bucks.
They are good shooters. Mike
