My enc 50 bp just started experiencing gas blow by around the primer. Never seen this before. It is probably doing it about 2 in 3 shots. Doesnt seem to hurt anything. When u shoot hear a phew from the breech and a noticeable delay before the muzzle boom and there is smoke around the primer.

Enc 28" ph bbl speed breech with ez tip extractor
Bh 209 powder
Win 209 primer
250 gr sst In sabot with 110gr bh
300gr cast lead in sabot with 100 gr of bh209.
It has never done this in 3 years of shooting. Just started when I shot the 300cast the first time. Backed off pwdr and same thing. Any one else experienced this? Any ideas the cause?

Thanks

Did you just switch primers?

Nope, been using Winchester 209 all alone. I think I did open a new box though.

Sounds like bad primers. I had that happen on some of them with my Encore BP pistol. Sounds like a hang fire on a flintlock.
I got another box of primers and it went away.
I would check that first.

Emailed TC, they said I need a new breech plug. They are sending me one free of charge and said it should be here in 3-4 days.

Mc, just now saw your response but I had already contacted TC.

Thanks.

Got the new breech plug yesterday. They changed the design a bit. Appears the hole is bigger than the old one on the primer end and smaller on the business end. Will try it out the next trip to the range.

Well, if it does the same thing you'll at least know that you got a bad batch of primers.

Just shot today. No blow by. The new plug fixed it.
