Hello, I bought 40, 444 once fired brass off of one of the auction sites and its too short to form JDJ loads. Not the sellers fault, I neglected to do my homework. 444 hornady factory red tip cartridges are quite a bit shorter than 444 factory unloaded brass. I've now been educated ! I'm told this shorter brass can be resized to 307 or 356 winchester or used in the 444 marlin. If anyone is interested, I will trade 40 once fired short cases for 40 once fired standard length cases and pay your shipping. Or I will trade 40 for 30 and we do our own shipping. Thanks for any consideration.

Maybe much ado about nothing. They all headspace on the rims, think a little less neck is going to destroy the loads? I've got a good bunch of 375 JDJ already formed from 444. How many 2 for 1's can you come up with? Did some idiot shorten them down to 308 Length? What is the current neck size (caliber) 429? They were fired in a 444 Marlin?

Hello Jim, They are short enough that forming 309 JDJ you have about 3/16 of an inch for a neck. I didn't know it when I bought them, that Hornady manufactures their 444 cases shorter to accommodate the "red tip" bullets. That is loaded ammo only. When they (Hornady)manufacture 444 "brass only" it is standard length. Key words being " when they manufacture"!!! I have 40 "short" cases I would trade for 20 "standard" cases. Mine are once fired. They were fired in a 444. I guess some guys are resizing them to shoot in 307 and 356 winchesters because of the length and the rim. Trade cases don't have to standard as I am necking them down to 309 JDJ. Thanks

Using those 444 to make 307 or 356 is dumb. You still have to wack off a 1/4 inch or more. That makes for awful damn expensive 307 or 356 brass, when I can buy 307 for 20.00 less than 444's. Those guys with their math need to work for the pentagon. Spend 100.00 to save a nickle.
I'll send you 20 new R-P 444 Marlin brass cases. You send me your 40 cases, we each cover shipping to the other. I like coming out smelling like a rose with a deal like this. My 338 X 444 AI won't know the difference and neither will the elk that get's wacked with one. PM me your address So I can get them out tomorrow.
