I'm watching ads for an Encore pistol with both a 30-06 and a .223 barrel (walnut/SS). I've noticed a number of the ads say the barrel is a 30-06JDJ. I looked it up and the JDJ cartridges are different from the standard 30-06 cartridges.

Are all Encore pistols with 30-06 barrels going to be JDJ, or does the pistol support both standard and JDJ 30-06 barrels?

Here's a sample ad: http://www.jgsales.com/ssk-thompson-center-encore-single-sho t-pistol,-30-06jdj,-stainless,-scope-base-and-rings,-like-ne w.-p-1914.html

All TC factory Encore pistol barrels in .30-06 are Regular - not JDJ. You're looking at a aftermarket SSK barrel.
All the best,
Glenn

If at first you don't succeed... buy newer / better equipment!

Actually the J&G ad was for a complete pistol. 995 better get more than just a barrel.

30-06 JDJ is a wildcat base on the 30-06 case. Shoulder is blown forward and has a 60 degree shoulder! Higher velocity than 30-06

That wiki is wrong. It says this cartridge is for the Contender. I am pretty sure it is for the Encore. Pressures are too high to safely be chambered in a contender. Anyone know how to get Wiki to correct it?

Rich is right. Wikipedia is to say the least an unreliable source of reference!
When SAAMI pressures are cited, the term 'around' is dangerously unspecific.
Use http://saami.org/specifications_and_information/index.cfm and a clear understanding of the contenders tolerance.

safety first and last.

why would someone go to wiki instead of SSK? Then not notice that glaring error? Someone needed a second cup of coffee on that one. Actually two, the writer that posted to wiki, and the one here that provided the link.
Jones did design it so that a 15" encore barrel would "match" the velocity of a normal 30-06 round in a rifle length barrel. Not perfect but pretty darn close.
