15 sounds a little small. I shoot a Gonic 209x45 on my contender and find that 80 gr. of 777 is all I can handle. Gives decent groups of 1" @ 50 yds from the 20" bbl.
With elk you are gonna want a potent load, and prohunter indicates an Encore so I'm thinking you've got a .50 cal bore and can load a considerably larger charge. Go for it and good luck!

Think twice...shoot once.

I would start with about 72 grains (by weight on a scale) of Blackhorn 209 with any quality 250gr bullet such as Barnes. The TC shockwaves (hornady sst) shoot well but I have killed a dozen deer with them and am not happy with expansion (I know a dead deer is a dead deer....but).

mulish hasn’t been back since July 31st of 2017. Think we can safely archive this one.

If at first you don't succeed... buy newer / better equipment!
