I just picked up a 45-70 carbine barrel that is attached to a G1 frame and wondering what loads to use. I understand that using trapdoor loads would be safe from the manuals but I want some of your knowledge and experiences! Thanks. Also I wouldn't mind trying out Barnes 500gr. What do ya think??

Man Phil, the last time I was in Id. bear hunting I never did see a elephant track, LOL. What ya using the 500 gr. for. I've killed a lot of game over the years with the 444 and 265 gr. bullets. I think you will like the lighter bullets in the lighter contender frame as they won't kick to bad, I should say as bad. Mike

Haha! So, today I loaded some hornady 300gr with 40.7 gr of H322. Seems like a light load but in that small of a gun it's just fine!! I want to shoot 500 gr just to try Smile

Not sure if he’s still monitoring this post. It’s almost 7 years old.
All the best,
