I find myself with a barrel stub, a lathe, a milling machine and an interest in sleeving in a 6.5 caliber barrel. The problem is, no info available that I can find on chamber wall thickness. The OD of the Encore stub is 1.0”. The sleeved barrel would have to be turned down fairly small to work. One measurement that I saw from the now defunct Eagleview Arms listed their stub with 13/16 x 20 internal thread, or about .8125. That leaves a wall diameter of about .09 on the stub. . It would also leave a chamber wall thickness on the sleeved barrel of about .184 using the specs of a 6.5 Grendel as an example.

Does anybody have one of these, or have you done one of these? Am I limited to low pressure wildcat calibers requiring custom dies?

I’ve inquired about this on other forums in the gun smithing sub forum, with no luck. Seems a closely guarded secret

I've got a stubbed 250 Savage barrel for my contender but I cannot confirm any internal dimensions that you seek.
I'd suggest posing your question to the guys at Saubier.com, at least one of them may hold some insight to your dilemma.

I will do that, thanks. The 250-3000 savage runs at a pretty high pressure and the contender has even less wall space to work with. Makes me think I’m not limited to 444 Marlin wildcats or 30-30 wildcats. Already have a 357 max, 30herrett, 357 herrett, 45-70 , 223, 7x30 waters for the contender. I don’t have anything 6.5 and was thinking the Encore would handle the higher pressures.

Can you even see the seam where the sleeve is done?

Just barely, very professionally done.
Got it from a well known member here.
won't let me link post. Hope photos help
I also have a Coyote Guns barrel in 6.5 Grendel that is one of my favorites.
Loading for the little break-action always requires pressure considerations
Thanks,
Jimmy

Is the Grendel on an Encore, or a NEF Handi rifle frame?
If the contender can handle the savage round, an encore should be able to handle the grendel, they’re pretty similar chamber pressure.

6.5 Grendel not a stub, and not an Encore
It's made for the contender
Made by Coyote Guns and Accessories by Paul Dustin

That is a nice looking rig. I’m surprised that the contender can handle pressure from the 6.5 Grendel. Interesting article, but not much else comes up on Coyote Guns or Dustin.

I checked MGM, and a Grendel barrel can be had for a G2 Contender so I’m thinking I’m safe, pressure wise, to sleeve a 6.5 Grendel into the Encore stub.

I know I could buy a barrel from Coyote or MGM or Bullberry, but it’s also about seeing if I can do it myself.

There has to be someone out there on one of the forums who has done this.

I've never fired factory rounds. Same with 250 Savage
I use load recommendations from Bill Alexander for Grendel.
19 gr. 4198 behind 140 gr BTSP for 2200 FPS
I wish David White were around for you to consult on your stubbing questions.
1. Go to Saubier.com (http://www.saubier.com/forum.html)
2. Go to Project guns
3. Top right "search this forum" type in "barrel stubbing"
4. Peruse those findings
Somewhere among the members of Saubier is the Eagle View guys
One more chance, may be a worm hole:

Please post your conclusions

I will check those places. I have watched the old Eagle View videos and read what I could find from Lowell Kenny. That’s where I got the ID dimension for the stub of 13/16.
I’ve had a few responses on another forum along the lines of “people are hesitant to give out specific info because of liability issues.” I guess they are worried that I will construct something that explodes in my face. I’d like to avoid that.

The Saubier site doesn’t seem to want to send me an email reply. Maybe not automated and I have to wait for an actual human to reply tomorrow.

David White had the website that gave me the idea. It’s all gone now, no longer available. Same with Eagle View, although some of the vids are still on YouTube.

We lost David to Covid
He was a marvel.
Mike or Kurt Bellm could be an avenue of search to some extent (although somewhat prickly): https://www.bellmtcs.com/bellm/barrels
Reeder has an opinion on everything: https://reedercustomguns.com/
Eagle View info only LinkedIn site: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/eagle-view-arms-releases-eva- e-t-encore-barrel-stub-lowell-kenney/
I applaud you for your ambition
I hope you succeed to your end goal
Love to see the finished product
Thanks,
Jimmy
