I keep "inheriting" either unwanted items or unknown to me items in purchases. This time I got a barrel with a "C-MORE" brand Railway model red-dot sight. I'm only used to regular scopes with duplex or fine cross-hairs. These things retail for ~ 300.00, and you can get dot modules of 2,4,6,8,12,and 16 MOA. I figure I'd try this thing out on a 5.5" .22LR pistol for rabbits, and squirrels, gophers, prariedogs, and the like. 16 MOA dot at 100 yards is bigger than a dang prariedog so hardly worthwhile for aiming worth a darn. I was thinking of getting a 2MOA, which at 100 would be about rabbit and squirrel head size. On a running rabbit at 25 yards, dot coverage would be roughly 1/2 inch. Is that too big/small to acquire a rabbit at 25-50 yards and manage a decent but quick sight picture? Anyone have any experience with reflex red-dots and any suggestions?

It should be great for what you're talking about. The reason people go with the bigger dots is simply that you can see them better. I like to get as small of a dot as possible, my personal opinion is that a good ole shotgun trumps all for home defense and if I miss a rabbit because I didn't see the dot in time, oh well. But the smaller the dot the more precise your shot potential. You most likely would be happy with a 4 moa dot, but if you plan to target shoot any distance over about 25 yards you will wish you had a smaller dot.

yep, and then there's all the foxes and coyotes there hunting the bunnies at night too for even more fun targets. Might want to switch to LR hollow points. When the snow comes target definition should be a lot better too. Grey bunnies and coyotes or red foxes should really stand out with great contrast. Now I finally have something to use those 5000 rounds of .22 ammo I have laying around. Maybe have to put night vision goggles on my x-mas wish list for the wife.
