Just bought a brand new Encore frame. Rifle buttstock and forend. Problem is the hammer won't cock. With or without a barrel on it. Has anyone else had this problem? My buddy and I both bought these at the same time and both have this issue. It's almost like there's something preventing it from locking in.

Never say never. Encores will definitely cock with no barrel or stock if you know the trick. . I watched my gunsmith do it with frames only to test the trigger pull on the six frames I took him for trigger jobs. He just pushed something or another in the frame with his finger or screw driver as I wasn't paying to close attention and voila! cocked frame to test with the trigger pull gauge.

There is an Interconnect that is made to keep the hammer from cocking until the gun is closed. Your gunsmith reached in and pushed the interconnect back, and therefore was able to override the safety feature. Be careful about letting the hammer fall on the firing pin and not shooting the gun as the firing pin spring can become "sprung" and will not pull the firing pin back after a shot. You may not be able to open the gun after the shot or it may bend the firing pin if you do get it open. Bottom line dont let the hammer fall on an empty chambe without a rag or something to prevent it hitting the firing pin.
