Personalized engraving is one of the reason they offered them at the custom shop. Another was some like clean lines, no distractions. Others, like JD Jones got his own serial range for the same thing. Also he did custom commemorative runs, One is shown in "Photos".

The first "limited edition" Contender was in 1978 for IHMSA, made by the Custom Shop, which happened to be owned by T/C's President. 400 Guns. They did a 10th anniversary model later That was custom etched and Armour Alloy'd. Another was the Steve Herrett Commemorative, 500 engraved cased guns with 10" barrel. T'C had their own 25th anniversary limited edition model silver inlay)as well, again by FRO, the "Custom Shop". I've got several of the original IHMSA's, including the silver inlaid logo'd IHMSA 022, 1-25 were inlaid, the rest as flatsides. SH 024 of 500 Steve Herrett Comm. Some of these are shown in the Contender Reference section.

Great info Jim.

I was rummaging in my attic and found the T/C box in which my .22 Hornet carbine barrel was shipped circa 1983.

I told you I was pack-rat.LOL

Boy,I wish I had ordered all those barrels.

The barrel that came with my original contender carbine is the very barrel I have for sale in this forums.Since I have a second .22LR barrel,I thought I should sell one of them.

YEP slightly later was yellow label, then in 86 when full guns were finally released they went to white label. Anal me still has the receipts for all the barrels and carbine Kit(s) 9/84.

looks, like someone has been busy on gunbroker. Cartridge wheels a little too hefty?

I also have a cartridge wheel, paperweight, buckles and various and sundry patches. Still trying to acquire one of the "I shot 410 skeet" patches. But my prized collectable is one of the 25th anniversary boxed sets. Surprised

Kudos to you mike. Most of the time the long time collector dies and the widow or kids rather have the cash and sell it off and eventually it ends up for sale on the auction sites. You're lucky to find one that's willing to let some of his "treasures" go at fair prices. I'm sure you enjoy the pluses of dealing with the actual collector vs the wife or kids who "don't know/don't care" about the items, and have wonderful "chats", gathering good info about the history of the items, and he may even show you others nice pieces, although they may not be available at the time. Helps you build a "wish list".
