Anytime I put a scope on what I think will be a heavy recoil barrel I go with something that has a lifetime warranty - usually a Leupold 4x (can be found used for $150 or so).

If I'm going for long range, I like the Burris 3-12.

After that, I really like the OLD Tasco Pro-Class with the glass tapered dot reticle. (2x, 3x, 4x, 6x)

Honestly, I have all the barrels I want or could ever need..... wait, look, there's another!!

3-9 or 3-12 Burris. Doesn't take long to roll back down to 3X if needed. or start and leave it there if that's all that expected. I do give extra points to the 3-9 with posiloc and it's got an edge over even the 3-12. 4 X duplex pretty much blots out an elk at 300-350. 2 X blotted it out much closer.

Antelope is in real open country. For them I'd select one of the three 10X Burris's

I've got one Leupold Vari-X 2.5-8 on a pistol (a Remington XP100R). I'm not convinced I like it. When dialed down to its lowest power, the eye relief is so long that I've got to hold the pistol at full arm extension just to get a good sight picture. When dialed up, the eye relief shortens to a nice comfortable length but I don't like shooting at higher magnification (mainly because I'm not good enough to hit the target way out where a high magnification is actually needed).

Doyle, try a Dednutz EER base. I had the same problem and this base fixed it. Just enough distance to make it work

Crubear, actually I think I'd rather sell the pistol and use the money to buy other stuff. I just don't see myself shooting 400 yds where that kind of pistol really shines.

I spent 4 years in Utah. No thanks. The mountains are pretty - for a few months out of the year. Then it gets COLD. The valleys between the mountains are butt ugly. I had lots of friends from Wyoming and Idaho - some from the pretty parts (like Coeur D'alene, Driggs, and Jackson Hole) while others were from the ugly parts (like Rexburg and Laramie). Most of those from the flat parts walked with a lean when the wind wasn't blowing. Laughing

I know those with deep pockets are probably gonna beat me up, but I have a couple of Simmons 2-6x32 scopes that I use on both Contender and Encore depending on which caliber I want to shoot. Fixing to get a 4x32. If you order before 12/31, there is a $30 mail in rebate on any of the simmons rifle/pistol scopes. The 4x32 is $72 at Walmart.com with free shipping and then a $30 rebate, so guess I will get it for about $45 with tax. Simmons also has a lifetime warranty. By the way, I have shot many of sub MOA and even 1/2 MOA groups with the Simmons 2-6x32 on my 7-30 waters and .270 winchester.
