I ordered a 260 barrel but ammo is a problem and it is expensive I may cancel order and change caliber I'm thinking 7mm08 or 308 is the 308 much more recoil that a 44 mag in a ruger blackhawk. 308 ammo is everywhere.

If God brings you to it He will bring you through it.

I can't do a comparison in .308 pistol vs 44 mag in a ruger blackhawk, as I haven't owned the later. What I can tell you is my observations in shooting factory ammo in the Encore pistol.

.308 factory ammo in the Encore pistol is punishing. After a few rounds, I was all but done. I seriously considered selling my .308 barrel that day, but I'm glad I didn't. I reload, and upon further review of the Sierra manual (most of my favorite hunting bullets are made by Sierra), I discovered notes in their Single-Shot pistol section which turned me in a complete new direction. I now reload 125 grain bullets for my .308 barrel (Sierra 2120's), and it's a pleasure to shoot. I have no problem going through a box of 20 at the range. It's so much nicer than the factory loads, which were designed for rifles - not pistols. Yes, you can shoot the factory .308's in your pistol, but the reduced recoil of a 125 grain hand load like I have now is so much nicer (and forgiving).

7mm-08 factory ammo in the Encore pistol was about like my 125 grain hand-loaded .308's. No issues at all, except that my accuracy wasn't what I wanted. I haven't fixed that yet, but will soon. I've loaded up some 139 grain Hornady 2820's and purchased an adjustable hinge pin to tighten up my action when using that barrel.

If you don't reload, and want something that's a pleasure to shoot, I'd take the 7mm-08 over the .308. Using factory rounds, I think your palm and wrist of your shooting hand will be happier too.

All the best,
Glenn

If at first you don't succeed... buy newer / better equipment!

Thanks that is the way I plan on going 7mm08 if they let me cancel order.

Glenn, Harold,
Don't overlook the Nosler 120 Ballistic tip, instead of the 139 Hornady. I've found them extremely accurate and quite mild in my 7 cal contenders: 7tsu, 7-30 Waters, and 7X307AI (basically a rimmed 7-08). the only other bullet that was as close (better even) was the old Sierra SSP, and a carbon copy of the Nosler in performance on game. Sierra deleted all their SSP line a number of years ago. I still have 400 left from the 500 they gave me (free). They offered me 500 6mm but I turned that one down. I did have them give me 500 SSP's in 30 Cal I have no use for, I don't shoot anything in a 30 cal. I *may* pick up a 30 M1 carbine barrel, but I have over 3,000 rounds of 30M1 ammo already. If I remember right those 30 Cals were 130 grains. Sierra never did offer a 35 cal SSP, but hornady did, but not the 6,7,and 30 cals. I won't let loose of any of the 7's, but I could be persuaded to for the 30's. I'm still trying to get sierra to bring back all those old SSP's. With the encore for a boost in numbers of people using them in both contender and encore, some arm twisting might work. More than just me have to nudge them by making calls or emails as requests. I can'[t vouch (personally) for accuracy for the 6's and 30's, but those 7's were one-holers in everything 7 that I tried them in. The 120 nosler a REAL CLOSE runner-up. Naturally, a 120 (7) or 130 (30) will have a little less recoil than a 139 (7) (toss-op on the 130 30 and 139 7).
