In the Encore platform, or in general?

If you are speaking Encore platform, there is no short mag choice. Nobody builds one, including the custom shops.

All the best,
Glenn

MGM rechambered some 308 Marlins to 300 Weatherby Mag, listed at Ed's. The short mags are also "fatter" (.555 vs. .532)than the belted mags, not leaving enough chamber wall left for the pressures they run at (65,000 vs 64,000). Bolt guns only.

Then I guess there is no way to squeeze a .300RUM in there either (.550).

The worst part on the frame and hinge pin is the back-thrust. 64,000PSI in a .375 case ie in a 223 or 222Rem mag) is LESS than that 64,000 in a .532 case. which is less than in a .550 case which is less than in a .555 case. That ,532 case was pretty much the max limit for the pin and the frame. Contender frame has a .375 pin, the encore what? .4375. The hinge lug on a contender is 1/2 inch (.500)Frame thickness on each side is .200, both sides together? .400. Which hole is prone to "egg" or elongate quicker or at lower pressures/less force? Obviously the frame's two holes. The hinge pin and the locking bolts are where? UNDER the centerline of the bore. When the round is touched off, how does that barrel want to move? It really wants to open, without the locking bolts it would open, and very quickly. The same is going on in the encore, you've just started with higher limits, don't think you can push it's limits endlessly.
Ponder this in a real world situation and apply it to this topic: You have a 20 ton hydraulic Jack, it's limit is what? 20 tons. You can jack up a heavy-ass trailer with it, right? Up to 20 tons. The jack sinks into the ground, the jack's base is 6X6 inches,36 sq. inches if it's square; the grounds limit has been exceeded. What can you do? Put a 12" 2X10 under the jack and it doesn't sink, and the trailer goes up. What does that suggest to you?

The other thing to keep in mind is that even if the frame and barrel could handle the average pressures of these cartridges, there is always someone that thinks max is a starting point (trust me, I might have seen one or two). Now, take a setup that's barely hanging on and push it....

Lawyers don't get rich by looking at the stupidity of the individual that managed to injure or kill themselves.
