Ok I hunt whitetail deer only with my rifle and looking to add a barrel or two. I currently have a 35 Whelen which I love. Here are the ones I am looking at please give me suggestions.
308, 300, 260, 7mm-08.

Thanks in advance.

I have a 260 and it does great on deer with 140 Speers and Sierras. My son shoots a 7mm08 and it does good too. The 300 is going to kick like a mule.

In order of preference: 1) 243/260/7-08 2) 308 win/308 marlin/30TC. Can the 300 win mag.

I really like the .280 Remington as a whitetail cartridge. I believe it to be the most underrated deer cartridge out there. If your not familiar, think 7-06. I've shot tons of deer with .308 Encore. The .260 Rem is also an excellent choice.

P.S. Headed down to MS on Saturday for some work, can't wait! Haven't been there since I left Meridian in '93.

I've got 2 .260s (neither of which is an Encore) so I obviously love the caliber. The downside is a serious hardship finding ammo. Before the "ammo crisis" it was bad enough but since that hit it has been really bad. My favorite ammo - Fed with 140gr Sierra Gamekings, has been non-existant for a couple of years. Of course, if you are a hand loader then none of this really applies.

So, bottom line is that if you are not a handloader and you are choosing between .260 and 7mm-08 then I would recommend 7mm-08.

What are you looking for that the Whelen doesn't cover?

I guess to answer the question, I am looking to just add to the collection and maybe get a caliber that my daughter can handle. She is 13

If your state allows it, 22-250
If not, 243
And definitely a 22LR so she can get used to the rifle first, then the recoil

If you're set on your list, then the 7mm-08

My niece is a deer killing machine with a 7-08. Started her out with rimfires and a .243 but she loves the 7-08

Well, if she is small framed there are now 2 manufacturers offering low-recoil 7mm-08 (Rem and Hornady).
