Here's the top view of an intact 4 barrel styro:
It's pictured with the upper portion holding the "gun" and the first (if any) accessory barrel. The lower two thin indented horizontal "lines" are where they'd cut off the #3 and #4 portions for accessory barrels. Note that the #4 lower end is rounded. #3, If found alone would have all 4 corners square, and the large indented rectangle in the middle. #4, would have two square corners, two rounded corners and the narrower rectangular indention in the middle. The two vertical indentions are where they'd tape the box halves together with fiber re-enforced tape. They used the same even on later styro barrel boxes. Here, I have two big black "rubber-bands" keeping the boxes closed.

Below is a pix of two #3's, The #4, and a later separately made barrel box and it's paperboard "sleeve". Note this last one is shorter, wider, and has all 4 corners rounded, plus the T/C Molded in.:
