The Indiana House of Representitives voted last week on a Bill(H.R. 1231) that would allow for rifles to be used for our Deer Season starting this fall. It passed the House with an overwelming vote of 91-0. The Indiana Senate is supposed to vote on the Bill this week(2/8/16) or next. The proposal allows for rifles of .243 and larger to be used on private property ONLY.
The bottom line....Do yourself a favor and beat the rush of thousands of Hoosier Hunters who will be adding a rifle or new barrel to their collection. Here's the link to H.B. 1231

UPDATE....
HB1231 made it out of Senate Natural Resource committee with a 11-0 vote.
From what I was told, there were two amendments to the Bill:
1. Rifles will only be legal in Southern Indiana.
2. Must be in a stand 10' or higher.
HB1231 will now go to the Senate for a vote....

I've heard so many different things about this law. this is the first time I've heard it mentioned of only being a southern part of the state thing.

The original bill was introduced for the only the southern part of the state but was amended in the Senate to include the whole state.

They did clarify that it is ONLY .243" and .308" diameter bullet cartridges being made legal. Meaning 243winchester, 308 win 308 Marlin, 30/06 etc and NOTHING in between such as a 270win, 260rem whatever rifle barrel both still being illegal. Can still use in between calibers in a 15" pistol, but not a rifle configuration. Perfect sense right?

Varmint101....Exactly! We can use virtually any caliber with a handgun but are limited to .243 and 30 calibers in rifles. It makes NO sense. In addition, it will be reviewed in 4 years so there is a possibility that we could invest a lot of time and money in a deer rifle, only to have the use of it taken in 2020.

True, that is a possibility, but I haven't seen them go back on anything 5 year trial yet. Doesn't meant this wouldn't be the first though.
