Hi
Was wondering, a rifle set up on my contender has to have a 16" barrel correct?
I have a 14" 30/30 barrel, if I was to add a 2" muzzle break would that make it legal for a rifle set up with a butt stock?

Thanks

For a rifle, anything less then 16" would be a SBR and require a tax stamp, you are correct. There is something in there about partially including a muzzle break or flash suppressor but its not on the short question page but in the big book (or disk they now send out),pretty sure if its permanent its counted in the measurement (bolt face to end of muzzle)if removable its not.

16" is required, but the brake has to be permanently attached. If it comes off you've got a short barreled rifle. The overall rifle has to be 26" or more with the barrel on too.

Honestly, I have all the barrels I want or could ever need..... wait, look, there's another!!

Hello All,
I have installed a brake on my 243 15" pistol barrel. How should I go about getting this thing welded? Should I go to a gunsmith or a professional welder? Don't really want to screw my barrel up. Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rich

Ok so if I get it soldered on by a gun smith I should be good to go?
That seems to be the cheapest way to do this, can anyone recomend a place where I can buy a Good muzzle break? Also will it effect the shooting of the gun?

Solder is not recognized by the BATFE as a permanent attachment. If you want to be legal you have to pin it or weld it. Welding can damage your barrel so I would suggest the pinning method. It can be hidden well also.
