I am wondering what are the rarest and most sought after barrels for the encore rifle system?

That depends on the collector, time of year, availability of ammunition and/or reloading components, the actual timeframe (certain barrels sought after years ago may not be the same as a current sought after barrel this year), etc...

For example - Take a look at the twist rates for each chamber in the Encore reference section, and then start looking up some of the ones you don't ever see offered for sale anywhere. Some you won't be able to find at all. Others that seem desirable, you may be able to find and they will be way overpriced. Still others will be priced lower and lower as time goes by, as it's chambered in a cartridge that may be hard to find / reload for AND just not desirable due to other cartridges of the same caliber outperforming them.

All the best,
Glenn

Was just wondering if they did any limited runs of certain calibers or only did some for one year only?

With the T/C Custom Shop that used to be open, they likely have built several one-of's here and there. It doesn't necessarily make them highly desired though. Someone may have had a hankering for a 8" ported .300 Win Mag pistol at one time. It would be rare, as they probably only made that one and laughed the whole time they were building it, but it's not something that most people would be looking for.

There are some barrels I see offered for Encores all the time - .300 Win Mag, 7mm Rem Mag, .308, 7mm-08, .243, .30-06, .25-06, .223, .270 to name a few.

Then there are some I seldom see. Not sure if it was just limited production, or if people that own them just don't sell them often. Factory barrels I don't see often, but they do pop up from time to time - .257 Roberts, .260 Remington, 28 gauge shotgun. I know those off the top of my head, as those have been on my want list for a while. I just recently purchased a .260, but it's an aftermarket barrel. Not really what I was looking for, but I got tired of seeking out a factory .260 at a reasonable price.

Then there are those I personally have never seen offered for sale. Not to say they aren't sold, but I have just never seen them myself, and never really had a desire to purchase one, so I'm not really looking for them either. Things like 25-20 Win, .25-35 Win, 7mm Int, .307 Win, 32-20 Win, 32 H&R Mag, .32 S&W, .357 Sig, .357-44 B&D, .50 AE, etc..

All the best,
Glenn

Thanks glen was just wondering. Also curious just why in the heck they only offered 4 calibers for the katahdin. Seems it would be a big seller if offered in some other deer cartridges like .30-.30 for example.

I agree. Lots of us wondered the same thing. Quite a few of us wonder why they still make 26" and 28" ProHunter barrels when we would be so much better off with 23" to 24" ProHunter barrels in most chamberings, as well as even shorter in some others. Lots of movement in those long tubes (whip).
All the best,
Glenn

I managed to grab a golden egg recently, 15" custom shop contender 270 TCU unfired, yes I did it shoots great. oh yeah and a 25-35 Win, you just have to look, about the only thing I find real useful about the internet finding RARE barrels to shoot!

You can look for a deal and cut a barrel, I have a real nice 20" SS 308 Marlin was 28"

Sunny, great minds think alike! I have a 24" encore 308 barrel I had cut back to 20",reset the front site and counter- bored the chamber to shoot 307 0r 308 Win. Handles like a dream and is accurate. Great brush gun for this part of the country. I can't believe no one has jumped on the 308 Marlin you have in the classifieds. Must not be many brush hunters around. Hope things are well.

I thought about doing that with a 308 too bought the 307 brass by the truck load then ran across the Marlin barrel, then ran across a 7.62x53R then well you know. now I find myself into pistol shooting UGH, And of course Dylan at MGM had to mention the benefit of having my pistol barrels made to use rifle forends. And you know 18" is a real handy length for contender barrels. mumble mumble Confused Very Happy

I have a 458 Winchester Magnum barrel that I consider rare because I've never seen another.

I don't know how sought-after it is. though....

Anyone else seen one?
