I'm thinking of buying a 12 ga slug bbl for my Encore. Does the heavy contour rifle foreend fit the shotgun or is a separate shotgun foreend needed?

You need a shotgun forend.

the shotgun barrel has dovetail studs, the rifle barrel is just tapped

I upgraded the stock on my Encore with the brown laminate thumbhole stock from Midway a couple of years ago, and matching forends for CF and ML bbls. If I get a shotgun bbl, I guess I'll have to get a matching forend for it.
