I have a 35 Whelen Pro Hunter. It is stainless but the lug' or whatever its called, that is welded to the bottom of the barrel is blued steel. i recently bought a SS 223 barrel an lug on it is the same color as the gun.

Is the 35 whelen barrel really stainless or is it the weathershield? They are both 28" prohunter barrels.

The weathershield barrels are not made from stainless. They are made from the same material as the blued barrels. So it sounds like to me you have a weathershield barrel. They do look very similar to one another.

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm fairly sure all Prohunter weathershield barrels are 26" vice the 28" stainless versions. Take a look around Google. I couldn't find any 28" weathershield barrels.
All the best,
Glenn
