I have a 15" barrel in 7mm Rem. Mag. and I trying to work up a load for this barrel. I shoot 140 in my 26" barrel but I am looking to just use this upto 100 yards and have been reading that I should load a heiver bullet in it. I am teying some 162 grns bullets with H4198 at 40.2 grns trying to work around 2300f/s.
if anyone has any insight to this load I would like some help.

I don't have any experience with the load that you have in your post. However, I have had very good luck with reduced power loads (very low recoil) using IMR Trail Boss powder. Seems like you can shoot the stuff in just about anything and it will be accurate.

Here is the information that I got from the Hodgdon/IMR web site.

Obviously, you would want to use the normal precautions when working up a load.

Based on the 1724 fps velocity that is shown above in IMR's data I ran the numbers in Exbal and here is what I got.

Looks like it would work for target shooting out to 200 yards easily. And I would guess recoil would be VERY mild.

Hope it helps you.

I shoot 162 gr Hornady with 59 grs of IMR-4350 with Federal 210 primer but out of a 26" tube. Very accurate but I don't have any idea how it would do out of your 15" tube. My 15" tube is a 338 Federal. Deadly on mule deer.
Good luck and good shooting...
Greg

John,

I got excited when I saw that program, so I Google searched Exbal. Sad Looks like they haven't kept up with current technology. They have software for Palm (really? Laughing ), but not Mac's or iPhone's / IPad's (An IPad app would be awesome!). Do you know of any similar software or apps I could download?

All the best,
Glenn

Hey Glen,
Have you tried iSnipe? I've got it on my iPhone but haven't used it yet.

Greg,
I have not tried it yet. I saw it selling for $10 a while back, but I wanted to get some feedback from others on it first. I've only talked to one person about it, and he wasn't really a wealth of knowledge on it.
All the best,
Glenn

Thanks alot guys I think I have come up with a good, low recoil load to use in it.
