The newer Contenders have a lever on top of the hammer to switch between centerfire and rimfire and to put gun on safety. I seems to me that this is a step backward from the previous type in which you used a screwdriver to switch between rimfire and centerfire and only had one button to push for the safety. It appears that on the newer type you could easily make a mistake taking the gun off of safety and choose the wrong firing pin and the gun not fire. You already have to have a screwdriver to change barrels, so just make the proper adjustment and choose the correct firing pin and you do not risk improper firing pin selection. Am I wrong? Are there any advantages with the newer type of selector? Just thinking.
