does anyone have actual ballistics data of the .460 s&w from a 20" barrel. specifically, hornadys 200 gr ftx factory ammo data from a 20" would be great to know. all input appreciated.

I get about 2600-2700 fps with the factory loads. pretty hot and a pretty light bullet. I now handload 240 xtp mags over 4227 and get about 2200-2300 fps. the 240 grain xtp mag is devastating on anything in north America. you can always go to the 300 xtp mag if needed. I sight in at 25 yards with the 200 gr factory and it didn't return to zero until about 150 yards. with 240 it was 25 yard zero and return to zero at about 100.

On a related topic, has anybody started making a decent hunting round for a .460S&W fired through a rifle barrel yet? Those Hornadys have a nasty reputation for poor performance on deer unless you shoot at about 150 yds and it has slowed down. Even then it still isn't the best bullet in the world. I'd be interested to see what the Fusions do.

I do not have it any longer (trade) but I was shooting the Hornady 250gr SST ML (.452) over a max charge of Lil Gun and it was a great combo. I did not chrono my load but it shot a solid 1.25" group at 100 yards.

I would think the fussion and the sst bullets would hold up. Mike

240 or 300 grain xtp mag are the way to go. they seem to hold up to the rifle velocities and are devastating on deer from 0 to 200.

I agree, but I haven't seen any of those in a factory load. So far, factory loads for carbine hunting seem to be either non-existant or they don't take advantage of the full velocity potential.
