Has anyone out there developed an accurate load for the 7mm-08 15" pistol? Mine is not a pro-hunter, just standard barrel. I have been trying 120 sierra PH with RL15 in it. So far, I have only been getting around 1.25-2.0" at 100 yards. That combo gives me the best accuracy in my 14" 7-30 waters bbl in the contender (1/2 MOA on a good day when I do my part) using 35.0 gr of RL15. What weight bullet have you had success with? Does this barrel do better with max or minimum loads? I am trying to stay with the 120 to manage recoil, but if a heavier bullet will give me the accuracy I want, i will try it out. It did seem like I was getting some flyers also with the max loads, but not sure if maybe the bbl was getting hot or not.
Thanks.

The Sierra PH is an excellent bullet so I don't blame you for wanting to use it in your 7-08 encore pistol barrel. As you've found, it was an excellent choice in your Contender 7-30 Waters. The Nosler 120 Ballistic tip is also one of my favorites and extemely accurate and deadly on deer/antelope in the 7TCU and 7-30.
The factory federal 7-30 round is a 120 flat tip, pretty much dictated for the gun which the round was originally designed, Lever actions, and restricted to ~40K pressures.
However, the 7-08 is a horse of a different color, it was designed more for higher pressured single shots and bolt guns. I believe the factory recommended round as a deer gun is a 140 grain load, 150's and 160's for larger game like elk and moose, perhaps bears.
My favorite bullet for my 7X307 AI is the Speer 130 SPBT. I think you might find it a better choice for your 7-08 than the 120 PH. Accurate, deadly, and acceptable recoil levels. Too bad Sierra quit making the 7MM 130 SSP bullet, just wished it was a BT design, but excellent shooter in 7MM pistols.

I have been shooting my Encore SS 15" 7-08 since 2006. I tried some 120grn bullets but just didn't get the consistency I wanted out to 200 yds. I did some reading and asking around and starting shooting the 140grn Ballistic Tips and the 140grn Sierra Game Kings with Varget powder- 38grn was a starting load on mine.
I'm getting 2315 fps with the 140grn Ballistic Tip and Fed 210 primers. I have taken five whitetail with it and some coyotes and one hog using the Balllistic Tips and one deer with the Sierra bullet. When I started using the 140's it settled down right away and was shooting under 1" at 100yds with a Bushnell Elite 2x6.

I've used the Barnes 120 grain TTSX in my 708 Encore pistol. They shoot fine. I have used both IMR 4064 and WW 748. I seat the bullets a bit out there since my Encore has a long throat.

Jerry, I hope you had a good holidays too.
Try 38.5 gr. of 4895 with a 139 or 140 gr. pill, it was a good shooter for me.
