I'm assuming your going to 7-08 Wink

Yes, resize and trim to length. If you're using military brass work the load up, case dimensions in military brass can be thicker. Also, after you fire a round try dropping a bullet into the fired case. If it doesn't drop down into the case "STOP SHOOTING". There isn't enough room in your chamber for the brass to expand and release the bullet and you'll need to do some neck turning. (If you neck turn and the bullet drops to the shoulder then you have donuts, but it's OK to keep shooting)

Honestly, I have all the barrels I want or could ever need..... wait, look, there's another!!

Do you mean neck turning as boring out the inside of the neck, how does one do this?

There are two ways to do this, as you state with a neck reamer or from the outside with a neck turner. This will help more than I ever could: http://www.redding-reloading.com/tech-line-a-tips-faqs/147-a dvanced-case-forming-operations-

My preferred tool is the K&M (Yes, a shameless plug)

You'll probably be better off just to find some 7mm-08 brass, a lot easier. Mike

I was going to use winchester 308 brass for 7mm-08. I resized and then loaded the rounds. I decided to measure the outside diameter of the loaded round at the neck and found that it was the same dimension as the SAAMI chamber minimum. I then measured some once fired from that gun and found that the chamber minimum was the same dimension as the loaded round. I had read that you should have .020?? difference for the neck to be able to safely release the bullet, but they were virtually identical. I then chambered a round and found it was quite tight going in. This made me a bit nervous, so I pulled all of them. The loaded rounds with factory 7mm-08 are smaller around the neck loaded.

The conclusion, if I wanted to use .308 brass, I would need to outside neck turn the brass to get within spec for safety. I bought some 7mm-08 brass instead. I may one day buy an outside neck turner, but decided to defer to a later date. Now, had my chamber had more room to work with, I would have used the .308 brass.

To bad, I shoot 2 different guns in 7-08 and both of them handle 308 brass fine, fit fine loaded and fired. I BOUGHT ONCE FIRED MILITARY EVEN, and still fit ok. Guess I have loose chambers, one a Ruger, one a Howa.

That's why you need to check - and start low to check pressure.

You mean my mossberg has a tighter chamber than a ruger. Never would have figured that.
