I am trying out the Blackhorn 209 powder, many say Hoppes 9 is great for cleaning the bore after use. I was at Bass Pro Shop yesterday and the salesman told me that Hoppes 9 with stain the stainless steel and I should not use it. Is this true?

Not to my experience. I prefer stainless in just about all I own and I've never run into any staining from regular #9

That's bs as far as I can tell. I use Hoppes 9 on all my guns and none of the stainless ones that I own have ever shown staining. He might have a different experience though.... There are different types of stainless steel out there.

Cabelas and Bass Pro clerks are usually a little more inteligent. Ive had some Dunhams and Dicks clerks that should be selling shoes rather than working in the outdoor area based on the advice they give.

Hoppes #9 is not compatible with muzzleloader powders as it leaves a residue that will contaminate the powder. As far as damage stainless steel???? Wrong!!! That clerk needs to stop buying crap from China!
